WILLIAM HAGUE HAS RESIGNED!!!!!!!! THE ALL-USELESS SLAPHEADED ONE WILL NO LONGER PLAGUE OUR TELEVISION SCREENS WITH HIS MONOTONOUS VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least ONE good thing has come out of this election.

We studied Camedia del l’arte (spelling?) today in Playbox. Playbox, if you didnt know, is my Saturday youth theatre school. Camedia is an italian form of comedy that relies on improvised ytet hugely exaggerated sketches, ALWAYS involving the same seven characters.. It’s great. I’m already getting into character-Alecchio, the cunning, practical joker servant.

I also went into Bristol, on a shopping spree. Bought three videos-Drop Dead Gorgeous, Platoon, and the Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles. I LOVE Mel Brooks films. In fact, I like all that kind of comedy.

If someone asked me to list my ten favourite films of all time, this would be them:

    1) Monty Python And The Holy Grail

    2) The Dirty Dozen

    3) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

    4) SpaceBalls

    5) the Great Escape

    6) Monty Python-Life Of Brian

    7) Goldfinger

    8) Robin Hood-Men In Tights

    9) Blazing Saddles

    10) The Italian Job

That is my top ten films. Ever. Gives you a better insight into me, I feel. People’s personalities are so often reflected in the films they like. Try it on anyone.

I also bought a new set of weights. REALLY nice set. Y’see, I’m trying to bulk up a little for America too, as I’m not exactly the most toned of people :-(

    Someone also asked me today:

“If you had a fight against yourself, who would win?”

That question got me thinking. And we all know when I start to think, then all around me are at risk. Who WOULD win a fight between me and me???? who would win a fight between you and you? Then I realised that it would quite obviously be the REAL me, the me who is writing this. Simply because I know myself better than anyone else. I know EXACTLY what I am capable of, and how to achieve it. I know my own faults and how others try to exploit them.

Yet another of the lessons I seem to be learning. You can’t really understand anyone else, until you understand yourself. And slowly, I think I AM starting to understand myself more.

Kevin is down again. That’s Karen’s boyfriend. He’s a REALLY nice guy. He’s the reason I’m swigging from two alternate cans of Stella right now.

As I talked about films earlier, it seems like a fitting topic to end on that I went to see Bridget Jones’s Diary today. Yes, I know, I’m 6 months behind every other cinemagoer in the world, but hey, I went, didnt I???????????

Anyway, just though I’d mention that. If this entry sucks it’s because it was written at 4 AM in the morning. I’m tired, and wanna go to bed. So I will. See you all soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, Scott!

One film that I would list in my TOP TEN would be “Cider House Rules.”  It touches about every major issue that is still hanging fire in the world, but, admittedly, it doesn’t do it with a lot of humor.  You’ve probably named an insightful grouping of films that do combine action, comedy and universal issues. Congrats!  I’ve waxed rather ‘holy” on my blog today.  Hope it doesn’t put folks to sleep or run them off.  I don’t claim to be a saver of souls–that’s God’s job.  I just find that as I write, gems of understanding come to me.  Maybe few others understand “my” understandings.  Well, that’s the way the cookie bounces…er, crumbles…or the ball brumbles…whatever.  By tomorrow, I’ll lead off with a wittier remark, perhaps, that has more wide appeal.

  • P.S. Our daughter is a film studies major at Webster University, and my late brother was an actor trained at the U. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where Willem Dafoe was a friend and classmate of his.  In fact, I first met Willem (Billy to me) when he understudied my brother in a play.  Anyway, we are a movie-crazed family.  Our daughter, son and I have all worked in films as “extras” in specific scenes.  I was in two shot here in St. Louis–White Palace, where I was an advertising executive and King of the Hill, where I portrayed a mother picking her children up from school.  (Essentially, at each time of these films being shot, I played myself, ha!  Now I need to find a film project that needs an authentic Certified Rural Chaplain as an “extra” actor.)  The kids were in King of the Hill with me, and that’s what got our daughter interested in studying film in college.  Next semester, one of her courses will be “The films of Steven Soderbergh.”  Steven was our director in King of the Hill.  So…rave on and good choices of videos you bought! Willem is just fabulous, and Platoon is a heart-breaker.  He is truly the Jesus Christ figure in that one.

  • I actually did a little dance when I heard Hague had retired. SO you like Robin Hood Men in Tights as well…that is an excellent movie!
